We all know that, in a luxury home, as a high-level architect and/or decorator, you never leave anything to chance: you seek shapes, exclusive materials, light, the most avant-garde textures, and colors that create unique atmospheres to delight your client…
But what happens when the engineer arrives and draws a plug, a switch, or a control keypad in the middle of such a well-crafted space?
Do you try to bribe them to ignore the regulations?
Do you push their neck until they erase it from the CAD?
Do you insist your client fire them and find someone else?
I’ve been doing this for many years, and except for point A, I’ve experienced all the others on several occasions.
I recognize that integrating these and other elements without disrupting the aesthetic is a real challenge in spaces where every detail counts. And this is an important part of my work, too.
In the attached image of a home I recently managed in Altea, the electrical mechanisms have been carefully camouflaged in the wallpaper, maintaining the purity of the design without sacrificing its functionality.
When technology meets design
A good engineering project must speak the same language as the interior design or the architecture of the building, finding solutions so that the technology integrates naturally into the space.
Invisible mechanisms, intact functionality
Seek solutions in mechanisms that can be customized, built-in, hidden, or blend in with the materials and finishes so as not to interfere with the aesthetics. Or in technologies that allow us to avoid them without compromising functionality, comfort, or ignoring regulations.
Architecture, design, and engineering, an aligned team
Working with an engineering firm that understands the importance of design makes all the difference in luxury home projects. It’s not just about drawing what needs to be installed, but about providing solutions that respect and enhance the architect’s or interior designer’s vision.
Excellence lies not only in what is seen, but also in everything that is not seen but that must exist to achieve a flawless experience.
How do you solve this challenge in your projects? I’ll read you in the comments.
