☝️ In the time I’ve been working in luxury homes, home automation has evolved home management, offering highly advanced and efficient communication systems and protocols, among which, honestly, I wouldn’t know which to choose.
I’ve mainly worked with four, although there are more. And some of the ones not on my list perhaps should be, as I was pleasantly surprised by the little I saw of them.
But since I can only tell you what I know, I’ll dare to give you a glimpse of my experience, in telegram format , in case it can help you with your next project.
➡️ KNX
Main advantage: easy to find in the European market, with multiple brands and models. It even allows you to mix devices from different brands in the same home.
Good for lighting and air conditioning control, although not so much in other areas, it’s the one you’ll find most integrators in Europe. More options = better prices and offers.
The visualization is usually average, and the creation of scenes by the owner is quite limited.
➡️ Lutron
If KNX is good for lighting, the Lutron system is even better.
It is compatible with various automation platforms, but is more limited in controlling the rest of the home systems.
Sometimes it is hybridized with other systems to resolve this.
➡️ Crestron
Control over almost all home systems, including audio, video, climate, security… It is perhaps the most comprehensive on the market and highly customizable.
But it works with a proprietary language, which makes updates or expansions complicated and expensive.
➡️ Teletask
The easiest integration, an intuitive interface, and elegant keypads (like the one in the photo).
Buuuut… it’s more limited in terms of equipment, support network, and distribution. It has the fewest partners and integrators.
Sometimes it has incompatibilities and lacks gateways developed for devices from the most well-known and widely used brands in the sector.
I don’t know if this brief post will have helped you with your next home, but since I’m one of those who thinks that learning something new never hurts, I hope that the next time someone talks to you about home automation, you’ll be familiar with these systems and the advantages and disadvantages I’ve mentioned.
And if you’re the one who decides on or integrates any of them (or others), maybe you’d like to tell us something about your experiences and how you agree or disagree with what I just wrote. I’d be happy to read your feedback, really.
Because I too learn something every day, every day, despite the time I’ve spent in luxury homes.
