A luxury home without a utility room?
Well, I’m sorry to say that’s NOT a luxury home.
And I’ll almost add that its size should be directly proportional to the home’s category. It makes the difference between the comfort and efficiency of the home, and no, a garage wall or a closet in the entryway won’t do.
So you don’t know what essential features it should have?
Well, drawing on experience, I’m going to take a risk and give you no less than 10. I challenge you to add any more…
✅ Order and accessibility – Make sure everything is in its place and with enough space for stress-free maintenance.
✅ Everything marked and labeled – Do your best and put a label on each appliance indicating its use. And a space for the manuals for each machine.
✅ Ventilation and controlled temperature – Avoid odors, gases, overheating, etc. Be good and extend the lifespan of the equipment and the technicians.
✅ Adequate and emergency lighting – Because working in the dark among machinery is never a good idea.
✅ Silence and insulation – Please allow technology to work without being heard in the rest of the house.
✅ Reserve space – Be proactive, anticipate the arrival of more and new technology.
✅ Fire detection and extinguishing system – Because this is where you combine water, electricity, heat, movement…
✅ Drains – Allowing you to spill a liquid or have a small leak without major consequences.
✅ Evacuation route signage – For those emergencies you know “never happen.”
✅ Signage and emergency shut-off button – With phones you go crazy searching for in case of trouble and that “mushroom” button that stops everything in case the situation gets out of hand.
What else can you think of that a utility room should have?
Can you add anything I missed that’s necessary?
